Finding Purpose as a Mom: Purpose Quotes

Why am I here? How do I find purpose?

I think these 2 questions are the most asked questions about life.

Finding Purpose as a Mom-min

What is your purpose? What do you think your purpose is in life? Are you working toward a purpose or goal?

“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche

“Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it”
― Buddha

“It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters,”
― Amit Ray

“I want to live my life in such a way that when I get out of bed in the morning, the devil says, “aw shit, he’s up!”
― Steve Maraboli

“Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder. Help someone’s soul heal. Walk out of your house like a shepherd.”
― Rumi

“Every new self-discovery leads you to more wholeness, opens your heart, makes you humble, and a better person to serve and love others.”
― Assegid Habtewold

“There is no greater duty in this world than to serve others with deep compassion and love.”
― Debasish Mridha

I thought by age 30 I would have no problem finding my purpose. As a child, I thought all adults had life all figured out and that they knew who they were, and where life was taking them.

The more I talk to people, the more I know – Nobody knows what the heck they’re doing!

But it seems that most people, especially moms, are trying to find their “purpose” in life in order to be happy. And I’d have to agree, finding a purpose and working toward a goal brings happiness and meaning into life….it brings, well, purpose.

So how do you go about finding purpose? And how do you know that THAT purpose is the right one? It’s not as hard as you might think.

There are 3 things to think about when it comes to finding purpose:

  1. As we learn and grow, and life throws challenges at us, our purpose can be constantly changing and evolving. We have many purposes in life not just one set one. There is a time and a season for everything. So, what season are you in?
  2. Are you doing anything right now to figure out your purpose, or are you feeling stuck and overwhelmed? There are purposes that we are “called to” in life, and then there are purposes that we create for ourselves.
  3. We ALL have a purpose in life to serve others. We are all here to help each other out. We need each other. We were each given talents and passions specific to us in order to help those who surround us in this life.

Let’s elaborate a little:

I believe that one of my purposes right now is being a mother. This is definitely one of the “seasons” I am in right now. My other purpose is providing an income for my family, right now, while my husband goes back to school.

These purposes, whether I like it or not, are pretty clear and solid right now. I will continue to wake up with kids every morning, so I can’t exactly live my dream of dancing on tour with a cruise ship. (haha, not really, I can’t dance that well). So what is your purpose in this season of life right now?

My second purpose is the things I’d like to accomplish in life.

What is something I strive to be or goals I’d like to meet? Right now, it’s my blog.

I believe I have a purpose in life to uplift others because it’s something I’m passionate about, and my blog is a way I can do that. Now, did this blog just fall in my lap? No. Did it search me out? No. Did I have a huge revelation or sign that this is my one and only purpose in life? No. I saw the opportunity, I prayed about it, and I took it.

Once we realize what our purposes are, it brings value and meaning to our lives, that we may not have seen before.

It helps us to put our full heart and souls into reaching that goal and fulfilling our purpose. Which in turn blesses our lives and those around us.

When I remember my purpose of being a mom and that it is my responsibility to raise my kids to be highly functional adults that contribute to society, it makes it easier to really value the meaning in it. I truly embrace that purpose.

So, What is your purpose and what are you seeking to accomplish in life?

Finding Your Purpose

  1. Make a list for Finding Purpose

Write down (and journal) all of your interests, passions, desires, talents, goals, and dreams. Anything and everything you can think of. Don’t hold back.

What do you always find yourself doing?

What is something you’ve always wanted to do?

What do you find yourself thinking about?

What do you enjoy doing even if you’re in a bad mood?

Here are some more questions to help you journal.

2. Ponder

Review and ponder over your writings for a few days with prayer. If you don’t pray, just ponder.

Think of ways you can make what you enjoy doing more common in your life. How can you help others with it? What could you accomplish or make your new purpose with your desires, passions, interests, talents, and dreams in this season of your life? Visualize your goals, dreams, and ideas taking place in your life.

3. Pick a couple

Pick a few of the things that you thought about.

Your top ones.

The ones you thought about the most or made you smile.

Next, write down all the things you need in order to accomplish that purpose, how it would make you feel, and what it would be doing for others, for yourself, or for your family? Completely plan out an overview of that goal/purpose.

4. Pray

Then pray about your favorite one of them or all of them, and find out if that something is for you. I believe that including God in our purposes not only helps us figure it out, but helps us achieve it!

5. Set Goals

Once you discover what IT is, set a big goal and then use little goals each week to accomplish that big goal. Pretty soon you are working toward and living a life of finding purpose.

Don’t wait for life to show you a purpose, go after your goals, make your own purpose, and include God in your purpose.

He can show you, and he can help you get there. He wants you to succeed and he definitely has goals in mind for you. This is a way you can be anxiously engaged in a good cause, make a difference, and be proactive about life and work to reach our full potential. Which, brings us happiness.

Don’t get stuck or overwhelmed by thinking you have MISSED your shot, your purpose, your reason for existence in life. Because you haven’t. Life is a constantly changing, and you are constantly evolving, there is a season for everything.

Don’t think that because you’re a mom you can’t have goals, dreams and aspirations. Some parts of those dreams might be put on hold for a little bit, or be taking you down a different path than anticipated, but don’t be afraid to go after them!

If you are looking for the opportunities, they are there!

So, go get it! 🙂

So, what is your purpose? And what are you going to do about it?
