Helping hands after Hurricane Harvey
The Mormon helping hands is a community of volunteers that provide service. They have done many hours of service across the globe with 1,000s of people. It’s very inspiring and something I’ve always wanted to be a part of. Well, last year, my husband and I had the opportunity to participate. I am originally from North Houston, Texas, and last year when Hurricane Harvey hit, we were actually still living in Texas.
Luckily, the only thing that flooded where we lived was the apartment complex parking lot, so we were stuck inside for 3 days. But just a couple miles down the road, a lot of people lost their homes. It was very devastating to see so many people losing so many things that were precious to them.
My husband and I knew that we wanted to help, so we signed up to help out with Mormon Helping Hands. It was a great experience. I had the opportunity to go out 2 different times. The people who we were helping were so grateful. It was great to feel like I had some part in making their lives a little easier. It really helped me put my life into perspective. Things are just things, people are what really matter.
This little video was put together by Kimber Crandall, a fellow Houstonian. It’s very inspirational on just how important it is to love and care for others, and the difference it can make in our lives and those we serve.
